Every year myself and Dec do a Superman / Batman piece hoping that it will show that we've improved a little bit over the year. We changed it up this year now that we can draw things with a bit of dynasim

When ever theres a hang up

Whenever Im doing a lot of drawing I usually take a break from the subject matter just to mix it up for a bit. Been banging out the Rich III pages lately with detailed castle interiors so figured id do a Spidey panel just for a breather. really liked how this one turned out.

Shiney new Blog header

The look of my blog needs a total overhaul. My buddy Laura just did a new website and I'm hoping it will give me the kick up the ass that I need to do a new one. Id love to have a lot more of my stuff coloured for it. Apparently Black and white is all the rage these days graphic design wise but Im still one for the over the top comic book colouring style

Another day another Iron Man

I did a pic simular enough to this a few weeks back but it wasnt quite right. Much prefer this one though. Dustin Nguyen was on here the other day commenting on it which kind of inspired me to draw another one. I wish I could say hes an influence but honestly I think I have a long way to go before I can say that, his style is really organic and beautiful and demands a really high skill level that I aint even close to

Jim Lee

Was skyping the Micks last night when Dec brought up an old Bat Family drawing the two of us did a couple of years back. The drawing is based on a Jim Lee rough for a scrapped wraparound Hush Cover.
I love seeing that even at a young age I was already far better than Dec!!


We never actually finished it, theres supposed to be a sprawling background of Gotham city but whatever. Im really looking forward to doing the Jam piece with the Micks actually, theres gonna be a serious fight on our hands to see who gets to keep it.

I've been ridiculously busy the last little while which is good. Really starting to settle into producing the pages right now though. Already over 20pgs penciled and inked into Richard the III. Finally heres some artwork from it. The Dublin Con was an absolute blast by the way

Its late and i really should be asleep cz Im flying to the states for a few days in a few hours. This little thing was the highlight of the year for me

Well, im back after being really busy for the last while (Still am strangely enough) and being hit by some crazy illness. Birmingham was just great, I'll have something to post from it tomorrow that was the highlight of my very short career so far.

Classic

Good news today folks. I've just become part of the classical comics team, (this plays into my whole forever following Declan's career so far). Those of you detectives out there may have noticed in previous posts its for their Richard III book. The book itself will be a mammoth 144 pgs which will keep me busy for the best part of a year. This represents a big opportunity to me and I'm delighted to get it. Rest assured, those of you waiting to see more Rocket Group that I'm still finishing up the conclusion to the arc and possibly more!!

Sub-con

Well it was a great weekend. Brilliant to meet everyone who stops by on the blog and put a face to the names and also to meet a load of new people aswell. Honestly didn't expect there to be such a big crowd at the thing, my arm was wrecked from sketching by lunchtime, it was really great.
I have to take this moment to say a big big thanks to Rich Carrie, his sculpture of the Project Bushido is just amazing. It now graces my profile pic on just about every social site thingy I have.
Well done also to Rob for setting the whole thing up.
I have a lot more pics to post when I get my hands on them and also I must scan in a "Strangeland" sketch of Dec by Tayto fan Paul. But for now feast your eyes on that fine sculpt and its happy fan

I am the Law

Was really impressed by Mooney's Dredd the other day. Realised when I saw it that I had never really drawn him so I wanted to give it a lash. Also gave me a chance to post something up on Rich's quick draw site and to have a rare chance at drawing something that wasn't related directly to work.

Rocket group wraps

So I'm finished the first volume Rocket Group and am pretty damn happy. Had a bit of a rush the last few weeks making sure that I got it done before I went off to New York (Cant feckin wait by the way) Plan is now to relax for a bit and head away. When I'm back in Ireland the buildup will begin for the Dublin and Birmingham cons which should be a blast so hauling mysaelf back across the Atlantic wont too much of a pain

This cover was a lot of fun to do but kind of bittersweet as a big name Cover artist was attached to it. (No not Declan Shalvey, id never let that hack near my stuff)
In the process of colouring it now and by god am I crap at it. Trying some funky techniques like crayons and fingerpaint but its just not working.
Heres the initial sketch that I started messing around with. Totally wasn't in the scanning mood last night but I took a quick snap

Here it is inked and I was messing around with the logo placement. I made a few small changes, especially with the Bushido

Next up is most of the flatting. A bit of trusty two tone shading, and some pink back lighting. The only thing close to being finished right now is the Night Ghosts coat

Heres something I'm messing around with at the moment. Going to try and overlay colours onto it us touch it up in photoshop and painter to give it that old illustration feel. I've no idea whether it will work or not.
By the way, if any of you haven't done it already, click on Rich Carries link on the right hand side of the page and have a look at the awesome sculpture he's in the middle of creating. It has completely blown me away

4 Page spread

Having never even done a two page spread, you can imagine this took quit a bit out of me. Im really happy with how it turned out and can gladly say that its sold and will soon be gracing someones wall.
After scanning this I think Im finnaly gonna get an A3 scanner. It was rediculous lining it up.
Ok, im off to read Ultimates 13 and cry at the 8pg spread in that.
The best bit about it was that I finally got to draw the Freakshow cast (The five on the far right!!) Which was fun to do following in the footsteps of Mooney, Thompson and Shalvey
